Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” that shows the expected cost of your dental care.
Under the law, dental offices are required to provide an estimate of the cost of dental services to patients who don’t have certain types of dental coverage or who aren’t using specific coverage types.
What is a Good Faith Estimate? A Good Faith Estimate is a breakdown of the expected total cost for dental services or items, including related expenses like medical tests, prescriptions, equipment, and hospital fees.
When You Can Request a Good Faith Estimate:
- When you schedule an appointment, you have the right to request an estimate for any dental service or item.
- If you schedule your dental appointment at least 3 business days in advance, you may request that we provide you with a written estimate within 1 business day after you schedule.
- If your appointment is scheduled at least 10 business days in advance, you may request that we provide a written estimate within 3 business days after scheduling.
You can also request a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling any service. If you do so, we will give you the written estimate within 3 business days.
What If My Bill Is Higher Than the Estimate?
If your bill ends up being at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the charge.
Save Your Estimates and Bills: Be sure to keep a copy or picture of both your Good Faith Estimate and the bill for reference.
