As the 19th year the dental office of Dr. Ban Barbat has awarded the Ban R. Barbat, DDS-PC Scholarship, three 2021 recipients have been chosen. These scholarships are awarded annually to a local high school graduate pursuing a career in the medical or dental field.
MANCINI
Dr. Barbat is pleased to announce the 2021 recipients:
Lucia Mancini – A graduate of Eisenhower High school, Lucia has been inspired to pursue a career in Biomedical Engineering. This is the result of memories watching her beloved grandfather at his workbench, who now endures the challenges of Parkinson Disease. Her desire in this field is to help develop methods to ease the rigors of the disease. Lucia will be attending the University of Michigan’s College of Engineering this Fall.
SHAKOURI
Natalia Shakouri – With a passion for biology and research, Natalia hopes to improve the lives of her patients as a Pediatric physician. A graduate of Utica High School, Natalia has been accepted at Wayne State University where she will be enrolled in biological studies. This is in keeping with her particular interest in biology and stem cell research.
WARD
Stefania Ward – An Eisenhower High School graduate, Stefania will be attending Michigan State University in the Fall, where she will begin studies in Human Biology. Her desire is to develop positive relationships with patients through a combination of medicine and personal nurturing so they achieve comfort and wellness.
“Luci, Natalia and Stefania portray the type of commitment and enthusiasm we would all want in our health care professionals,” states Dr. Barbat. “It is reassuring to know these committed ladies represent how our nation is progressing in the field of medicine.”
Eligibility for the Ban R. Barbat DDS-PC Scholarship requires the student to have a 3.5 GPA or higher, provide verification of acceptance into a college or university and provide letters of recommendation.
For over 20 years, Shelby Township MI dentist Dr. Barbat and her dental office team have been involved supporters of the Macomb County community. They have served as collection points for a number of charities, provided schools with educational support, sponsored community events, donated supplies and funds, and encouraged a greater understanding of the dire need to have good dental health in order to support good overall health.
Dr. Barbat is a general dentist as well as a neuromuscular dentist. She has received advanced training in all levels of sedation dentistry, cosmetic and restorative dentistry (including dental implants), TMJ therapy, bite alignment and oral appliance therapy, sleep disorders as related to obstructive sleep apnea, and advanced methods to treat many stages of gum disease.
When not in her Shelby Twp dental office most enjoys time with her husband, Joe, and their two boys.
